Sue Ivory is a Third Culture Adult and has to date resided on three continents, in seven countries, in 13 cities. She is British and grew up in the south east of England in the county of Essex. Her first opportunity to travel came at age 14 and she was straight away enthralled and began to dream of ways to travel more.
Sue is an early years nursery nurse who has specialised in teaching English as a foreign language to pre-schoolers in numerous international school settings. She holds the NNEB, Montessori and CELTA qualifications but as a true Montessori-an, preferences the hands-on learning experience of actually “taking the plunge” and doing. Sue has worked with a diverse range of children in top International schools around the world, currently teaching at Tirana International School.
At the same time, Sue has worked in a voluntary capacity, holding, loving and teaching infants abandoned into the care of orphanages along with children with extra needs – she seeks to meet immediate physical needs and whilst truly seeing that individual child for who they are and nurturing them.
Sue has been a creative fundraiser – another way she has worked with culturally diverse peoples and brought communities together.
Sue first became an active member of Global Woman Club Nottingham UK, enjoying the eclectic and international mix of women alongside the fascinating diversity of their genres of business and expertise. Sue soon after connected and met with Mirela Sula and having discovered she was soon to relocate to Albania; Mirela and Sue discussed the possibilities of a chapter of Global Woman being established in Mirela’s country of origin. Sue had hoped there was already a club there for her to participate in – she had no idea that this was a role that she would be stepping into.
Her reason for so much relocation is her husband’s 30 years role with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This makes her a Diplomatic Spouse and expert in relocating family in the differing seasons of life along with her two pet dogs, setting up and making new countries home effectively and quickly! In some countries, given her entry status, she has been unable to work or has had extremely limited employment opportunities, causing her to diversify and step into some unusual roles to compliment the family’s balance at the time!
She has always been committed to her family. When the desires and needs of her two teen children for education were to be best met back in her home country of the UK whilst she was living in West Africa, she found creative ways to keep the bonds of the close knit immediate family strong. Sue has particularly enjoyed the friendship and immediate encouragement of the Global Woman Club Directors and members she has had the pleasure of spending time with at events and especially at the recent Global Woman Summit in London in July 2019.
Sue envisages the club in Albania to be a vibrant and successful chapter with local Albanian participants alongside international women who are based in Albania temporarily or have now made the country their home.
Every page of every chapter of our individual story we travel through is a refining process of the Gold that we are – and Sue has had some moments where the heat has been turned up in her own chapters to bring her to be the woman she is today and the continuing journey of who she will be tomorrow. Sue recognises the challenges of opening a new club and seeks likeminded women to join her in the Global Woman adventure.
Sue and her husband Jason took the Media training one day course in London this past May and found the material and training of the one day intensive course to be valuable to the roles they have both stepped into in Tirana Albania. And without reservation recommends this exceptional training to every member of Global Woman Club.
